Существительное бедность в значении 'нужда, материальная недостаточность' передается английским poverty: жить в бедности – to live in poverty. Бедность ('скудость, убожество'), как правило, передается существительным poorness, реже poverty: бедность почвы – poorness (poverty) of the soil, убожество мысли – poorness (poverty) of ideas, бедность театральной постановки – poorness of a theatrical performance.
